FTC COPPA FAQs - My child-directed website doesn't collect any personal information. Do I still need to post a privacy policy online?

Compliance > COPPA
Q:  My child-directed website doesn't collect any personal information.  Do I still need to post a privacy policy online?

A:  COPPA applies only to those websites and online services that collect, use, or disclose personal information from children.  However, the FTC recommends that all websites and online services – particularly those directed to children – post privacy policies online so visitors can easily learn about the operator’s information practices.  See Mobile Apps for Kids: Disclosures Still Not Making the Grade (Dec. 2012) and Mobile Apps for Kids:  Current Privacy Disclosures are Disappointing (Feb. 2012).
